Brave.

I hear it just about every time I am in public with my three kids in tote, “You’re brave!!!” I usually smile and keep it moving. It’s kind of funny, because I don’t feel brave or think of myself as a brave person when I walk around like a mother hen and her chicks.

This past week, I experienced the same thing. Except this time with an, “I honestly don’t know how you do it!” along with it. This lady was holding her little boy (maybe about 6 months or so). She looked a little overwhelmed. Ok, she seemed REALLY overwhelmed.

I smiled, and replied, “You are brave too.” This was my BLOG moment.

We are all brave in our own way. To some, I appear to posses bravery because I go to Target with three kids. I think it’s fun and normal, they call it brave.

I look at people who do certain things/ endure certain hardships and think to myself, “Wow, that person is brave.” I’m sure they don’t neccessarily think of themselves as brave, but they are to me.

I think most of us, if not all of us have a hidden or an unwritten list of things we assume we would not be able to handle or do. We say things like, “I could never….” Or “I don’t even want to imagine…” Most often then not, we equate these feelings with a lack of courage or bravery.

But we are all brave. One definition of bravery is, “to endure or face unpleasant conditions or behavior without showing fear.”

Did you catch that? — Without SHOWING fear. Implying that bravery isn’t the omission of fear, but it’s enduring/facing something inspite of fear.

So, if you woke up today and didn’t feel brave because you experience fear, I’ve got news for you…. You are brave!!! You can go to Target with three kids, you can run a half marathon, you can forgive that person who hurt you… You get it.

When we see someone do/ endure/ face something we are afraid of, when can choose to be encouraged!! Don’t let what others seem to do so naturally cause you to become discouraged. Instead, allow it strengthen you and fuel the bravery inside of you.

I would love to hear from you!! Comment below and share a time when you didn’t feel brave, but those around you, thought you were.

Every week, I highlight a TRUTH about you, your life, or about a situation you may be facing, and then I DARE you to believe it.

That one time I flew on an airplane with three kids across the country… Alone. Some called it brave, I called it normal.
