Monday Morning Commentary Mash Up.
On our way home from DisneyWorld, I uploaded a handful of pictures (ok, more like 50, but who’s counting?) I created a folder entitled, “Life Lately.” I scrolled through these fifty plus photos, each one bringing a smile to my face. Pictures of us enjoying the sun at the beach, having fun on a ride at Disney, or treating ourselves to ice cream! These photos scream, “Life is good.” They might say to you that life for the Johnson’s must be going really well.
As I sat there debating a name change to my picture folder on Facebook, I had a blog moment.
Life hasn’t been peachy for us-“Life lately” has been challenging to navigate. It’s been a season of choosing to stand, to not give up, back down, roll over or throw in the towel. We have walked with people through hard moments, devastating circumstances and have been disappointed. Life lately hasn’t just been about trips to Disney or ice cream dates.
Just as the moments of disappointments don’t define our entire season, the pictures I posted, although make up moments of this season, don’t tell the full story either.
These pictures reminded me that God’s grace is sufficient. It reminds me that whether trial or victory, whether we are rejoicing or mourning that He is very present and able.
The word of God declares that God is the author and finisher of our faith and as we concluded a two part message, “Story of My Life.” I am certain that God takes every circumstance and uses it to write a more beautiful, God-breathed, faith-inspired story.
I’m so thankful for a faith community that continues to deposit seeds of faith, words of encouragement and direction for my very present curcumstance. This past Sunday, BJ asked a powerful question that I’ll ask you–Will you respond to life’s circumstances as an overcomer or will you be defeated by life’s curcumstances?
Romans 8:37-39 says this:
“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
I don’t know what season you are walking in right now, I don’t know what life has been like for you lately. What I do know is that your desert season doesn’t have to be dry and that whether you are having the best day of your life or the worst day, God is still God. He has not left you, He is close and He is faithful.
We are not promised a life void of tough moments, trials and disappointments, but we are promised that in tough moments, trials and disappointments victory is ours.
Isaiah 43:2-4
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior… Because you are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you.
